WHAT WE DO
Our mission is to create a safety valve in the school to prison pipeline.
Legal assistance
Safety Valve Project is a non-profit focused on providing legal assistance to students facing expulsion or other severe punishments. Such harsh punishments are proven to lead to much more detrimental outcomes down the road, giving rise to the “school-to-prison pipeline.”
Through legal advocacy and a holistic approach, we defend students' rights, promote restorative alternatives, and work to reform the systems that fail our most vulnerable youth.
Restorative justice
We envision a future where every student—regardless of background or behavior—has access to fair, supportive, and equitable educational opportunities. A future where schools prioritize restoration over punishment.
Our goal is to build a system focused on restorative justice. Provide quality-assured student behavioral plans, and 360-support for the students who need it most.
OUR VALUES
Our work begins with radical empathy.
Radical Empathy
We meet students and families where they are with compassion, respect, and a deep commitment to understanding their background and experiences.
Perceptiveness
We listen closely, observe carefully, and respond with insight—recognizing the deeper issues behind each case and tailoring our approach to meet the unique needs of every student and situation.
Accountability
We hold ourselves, school systems, and institutions responsible for creating and sustaining environments that truly serve every child.
Tenacity
We don’t give up on students, on justice, or on the belief that change is not only possible, but necessary.
Equity
We advocate for systems that address the racial and socioeconomic disparities impacting our marginalized clients, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed.
